UPS Distinguished Community Partner in Entrepreneurship

Back in late April I was pleased to hear that the Institute of Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma had been selected as a "Distinguished Community Partner" by the University of Puget Sound School of Business and Leadership.  We were nominated by Dr. Lynette Claire, Associate Professor, Business and Leadership with the University of Puget Sound.  She also is the driving force behind the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Network, which has student groups on several campuses including ours.

She spoke at the South Sound Technology Conference in March, and recently, in early June, spoke to my Entrepreneurship in Technology class.

Here is what she said in regards to our nomination:

The UWT Institute of Technology has been an instrumental partner in Puget Sound's efforts to launch an entrepreneur network for Tacoma's college students.  The Institute has actively engaged students in entrepreneurship and has provided faculty sponsorship for the UWT's entrepreneurship club.

Andrew Fry, in particular, has looked for opportunities for collaboration, whether it's an entrepreneur network event or an Institute of Technology event such as the South Sound Technology Conference or the startup weekend we are working on for September.  The School of Business and Leadership values our cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional relationship with the Institute of Technology and has thus named it our 2012 Community Partner.

Note that she talked of the South Sound Entrepreneurs Weekend in her remarks.  Our expectation is that many of the seniors and recent graduates from our technology and business degree programs will be participating in the event scheduled for Sept 14th, 15th and 16th in William Philip Hall on the UWT campus.

We should have a web site up for the event by the end of next week, and registration will be available soon after.
